Please join us August 13th for the Annual Granny D Walk and Rally. This year's walk will begin near Granny D's home in Dublin at 9 am. We'll walk approximately 6.2 miles to Depot Square in Peterborough for 12 noon, where we'll enjoy lunch and hear some great speakers!
Our keynote speaker will be Dave Daley, author of "Unrigged: How Americans Are Battling Back to Save Democracy". We'll also hear from longtime conservation activist and friend of Granny D, Francie von Mertens and Rick Hubbard will update us on plans for his cross country walk. We'll also be joined by Grace Aldrich, who is a mother, storyteller, facilitator, and reiki practitioner from Dublin, NH. Granny D was an inspiration for Grace's walking project to protest the family separation policy targeting immigrants.
Also on the agenda for the day is free Ben & Jerry's ice cream and music by The FolkSoul Duo, Leslie Vogel and Fred Simmons, original members of the band Tattoo, which Granny D considered her own personal band!
You can park in Peterborough at Riverwalk (48 Grove St.) and be shuttled to the start of the walk or you can park at the beginning of the walk in the Cobb Meadow School parking lot at 273 Cobb Meadow Rd, Dublin. (the school is closed, but the sign is still there).
Our theme for the walk this year is Walking to Fix Our Democracy.
We will need volunteers! Please email Doreen if you are willing to serve as a shuttle driver, a crossing guard, a setup or clean up person, serving lunch or ice cream or any of the other myriad of volunteer opportunities we will have!
Don't forget to wear your Granny D hat! Don't have one? Pre-order one for $20 by emailing Doreen and letting her know you want one and she will have it there.
The walk is cosponsored by the Peterborough Plus Chapter of the League of Women Voters- NH and Rights and Democracy.
