The planning committee is hard at work making arrangements for the afternoon, but we have confirmed our first speakers!
Brenda Lett, Executive Director of NH Black Women Health Project, Life Member of the National Coalition Of Blacks for Reparations in America (N’COBRA), Current Executive Committee Member of New England Chapter of N’COBRA. Former Program Manager of Coordinating Reparations Initiative (CRI). Former Manchester NAACP President, Masters in Community Mental Health and Community Economic Development from Southern NH University, and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Dubuque. Co-author of Race Between Us: Racism A Human Experience. Community Activist and Social Justice Advocate.
Eve Jacobs-Carnahan served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Vermont from 1990-2018 where she specialized in election law litigation. Also and avid and talented knitter, Eve makes knitted sculpture exploring themes in democracy. Her current project, Knit Democracy Together, is a collaborative knitting and discussion project about the U.S. electoral system. Her knitting circles have completed several knitted sculptures of state capitol buildings, including New Hampshire's.
Charlie Savage is a recent ConVal high school graduate. He's also an incoming freshman at Saint Anselm College with a major in politics on a pre law trajectory. Charlie recently hosted a very successful voter registration drive at his high school with Open Democracy and hopes to be able to continue to expand voter access in the future.
Grace Aldrich is a mom and community educator. She is the co creator of The Full Story School, a project about working with grownups who want to have hard conversations with young children about complicated subjects like race, colonialism, and climate change. Grace has been inspired by Granny D’s example of showing up to have hard conversations that affect everyday people.
Meghan E. Kallman is a Democrat representing District 15 (Pawtucket, Providence) in the Rhode Island Senate, where she has served since 2021. She is an associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Boston at the graduate School for Global Inclusion and Social Development. Meghan walked with Granny D and is originally from Harrisville.
Entertainment:
We'll have music by FolkSoul Duo: Leslie Vogel and Fred Simmons live in Greenfield, New Hampshire. With their home umbrella organization, Folksoul Music, which includes their Folksoul Duo, the band Tattoo and the Folksoul Band, they have been bringing American Roots music of all styles to the communities of the Monadnock Region and beyond for the past three decades. During Doris “Granny D” Haddock’s run for US Senate in New Hampshire Fred and Leslie and a couple of other friend musicians decided to become Granny D’s personal marching band as she walked into the many towns of this state to give her memorable campaign speeches in the village squares.
Eve Pierce is a passionate and charismatic singer-songwriter who currently splits her time between writing and performing her original songs, performing the lead vocals for the Celtic Rock band Waking Finnegan, and creating Folk Cabarets with her friend and fellow musician Gordon Peery. Her debut album "Save the Bell Tower" was released in 2021 and is available for purchase and download. She is currently working on her next solo album and Waking Finnegan’s first album. Volkert Volkersz is a singer/songwriter and guitar player that has been performing folk, pop, blues, children’s music, originals and guitar instrumentals since the 1960s. His biggest influences include Peter, Paul and Mary, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, James Taylor and John Fahey. Born in Amsterdam, Volkert was raised in Seattle. For 39 years he was a school music teacher and school librarian in western Washington State. He has performed at the Northwest Folklife Festival and the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle.
